Beyond Commercial Construction: How Madigan was "Bowled Over" by a Unique Backyard Resort Project
July 16th, 2025
A three-lane underground bowling alley complete with a control room, a stunning rec room with a full bar, a huge swimming pool and hot tub?? This outdoor oasis really caught our eye!
It is incredibly rewarding when a client is so pleased with the work Team Madigan has accomplished that they want to celebrate the results together, and this just happened at the Hall Residence in Southborough, MA. Although Madigan is primarily a commercial/multifamily construction company, and this was a single-family residential project, architect Bill Masiello thought of us when he was approached by the owners, Bruce and Kim Hall, to create a backyard oasis which would include a stunning 2-story recreation room with a full bar, bath, living area and an elevator, along with a built-in swimming pool, hot tub, outdoor shower, massive patio and deck area AND a full sized, underground 3-lane bowling alley! The proximity to neighbors and wetlands as well as the installation of the professional grade bowling alleys below groundwater level made this project all the more difficult, and Team Madigan really stepped up to the challenge. The Hall Residence Project proves that no vision is too ambitious when you have the right team behind it.
As Bruce Hall stated when the project was complete: “There are many horror stories regarding construction projects. I can honestly say I was thrilled with this project as it unfolded. The coordination, subcontractor selection and management, communication, and overall knowledge exhibited by Madigan were awesome. They are highly recommended for projects of any complexity!”
The Halls and Madigan threw a wonderful catered luncheon on a very hot and humid day this summer, so being in the pool or inside the air-conditioned recreation hall and bowling alley was the perfect place to be that day. Along with the Madigan employees from both the field and the office, and architect Bill Masiello, the Halls wanted to include all the sub-contractors who helped create their dream-come-true space, and we were lucky enough to have them show up from all over the state for this fun day. Families and friends were invited to see the hard work that paid off for their partners, and all were blown away by the incredible space that felt more like a vacation resort than someone’s private home!
CEO Jim Madigan enjoyed reminiscing with his old St. John’s classmate Bill Masiello about how well this project ran and how beautifully Bill’s creative, stunning vision came to fruition. Former project manager Tim Canada and retired superintendent for the job Serge Dias were in attendance to proudly recount the difficulties they overcame and the wonderful relationship they shared with the Halls throughout the process. During the afternoon, Bruce had compiled progress photos and videos that looped continuously on various TV screens in the recreation building, so that everyone could see the incredible feat of this project, especially the installation of the underground professional grade bowling alley.
Team Madigan is not only a fourth generation, family-owned company, it considers its team members family, too.
