Clark University - johnson Auditorium
Location: Worcester, MA
Client: Clark University
Architect: Juster Pope Frazier Architects
Performing construction during the summer of 2025, this project involved the comprehensive renovation of a frequently-utilized lecture hall at Clark University, located within their Sackler Sciences Complex. This active teaching space required a complete transformation to meet modern educational standards and enhance the learning environment for students and faculty alike.
The renovation scope was extensive, encompassing a complete re-design of the hall's seating arrangement and lectern area to optimize sightlines, improve accessibility, and create a more engaging instructional space. Beyond the physical layout, the project included the installation of state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment and integrated building controls systems, enabling instructors to seamlessly manage presentations, remote learning capabilities, and environmental controls. A new fire protection system was installed throughout the space to ensure compliance with current safety codes and protect building occupants. Additionally, all interior finishes, including flooring, wall treatments, ceiling systems, and paint, were refreshed and updated to align with Clark University's aesthetic standards and signature colors, creating a cohesive and modern appearance that reflects the institution's identity.
The tight construction schedule represented the most critical aspect of this project. Completion before students returned to campus for the fall semester was absolutely essential for Clark's academic operations, as any delay would have directly impacted course scheduling and the educational experience.
