Hanover Insurance – Dining Area

Location: Worcester, MA

The Hanover Insurance Group
Architect: N/A

Madigan was contracted by The Hanover Insurance Group to provide a cosmetic upgrade to their existing cafeteria space. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, many larger businesses have transferred over to a permanent hybrid work schedule for their staff, with time split between working at home and the office. Hanover decided to take the opportunity presented with this new schedule to modernize their current dining space, adding different pops of color and feature elements. The intention of this modernization was to provide a space where employees could work collaboratively away from their desks in a welcoming environment, with the space being set up in a more café-style manner. The focus of the space is around the Community Table, set on an LVT floor and complemented with contemporary pendant lighting as well as both in-floor and in-table power sources. There is also a graphic feature wall separating the cafeteria space from an adjacent recording studio.

Since this is the only dining area in the building, Madigan had to work around the daily operations of the space to complete this project. To achieve this, the project was split into two phases, each lasting approximately a month. Early morning and late night work was required to eliminate any potential disturbances to Hanover employees working in the office spaces above the dining space. The finished product completely transformed and brightened the space and provides a welcoming atmosphere for those using it. The Hanover project team was amazed at the up-tick in dining area use by their employees, and declared the project a success.
