East Longmeadow Skilled Nursing

Location: East Longmeadow
Client:
Berkshire Health Systems
Architect: David H. Dunlap Associates, Inc.

Berkshire Health hired Madigan to construct their 131 bed, 85,000 sf Skilled Nursing Facility to care for a variety of needs to serve East Longmeadow and its surrounding communities.  This LEED Silver certifiable facility was a two story, ground up new construction located adjacent to the operational nursing facility it replaced.  The new facility houses the residents in private and semi-private accommodations, and includes several large and attractive areas dedicated to nursing administration, physical therapy rooms, a library, many sitting areas, dining areas and cafes, beauty and barber shop, and even a pub.

Equipped with a receiving dock, large laundry facility, commercial kitchen, office space and a large conference room the building was designed to provide the staff the best possible infrastructure to support the residents.  The project was completed in two phases. The first involved completing the new building and coordinating the relocation of residents from the existing nursing facility into the new building. The second phase was the completion of a roadway fully encircling the new building.  Close collaboration with the client’s project management team and the design team resulted in the project being completed ahead of schedule and under budget.  As a result of the success of the project, Berkshire Health engaged Madigan under a separate contract to completely renovate and repurpose the adjacent older facility from which the residents moved.
